PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Boston Conservatory at Berklee Piano Professor Ya-Fei Chuang is a brilliant and charismatic artist who finds herself at home with the most demanding virtuoso works. She is a champion of contemporary composers and a masterful chamber musician, and has performed with orchestras, in recital, and at festivals worldwide to great acclaim. Her recordings of the complete piano works of Ravel and Liszt Opera Transcription will be released this year, adding to her highly praised and eclectic discography. For this energizing Piano Masters Series concert, Chuang will perform works by Liszt and Ravel.

Cuban-American cellist Thomas Mesa has enjoyed a vibrant career as a soloist and chamber musician following his first prize win at the 2016 Sphinx Competition. For this String Masters Series concert, he will be accompanied by pianist Jung-A Bang to perform a work by Tchaikovsky and newly commissioned works by Jonathan Chenette, Lydia Pugh, and Elizabeth Start.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Renowned German pianist Jan Jiracek von Arnim, artistic director of the International Beethoven Competition, makes his Boston debut in a program featuring all-Beethoven works, in celebration of the influential composer’s 250th birthday. 


Jiracek von Arnim’s appearance in Boston is a rare treat for music lovers. He is one of Europe’s most sought-after pianists, and has performed as soloist with the Berlin and St. Petersburg Philharmonics and in recital at the Musikverein Vienna, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, Salle Cortot Paris and the Kennedy Center.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Acclaimed Boston Conservatory at Berklee faculty members present “Unexpected,” an evening featuring the unexpected chamber music output from composers typically associated with other genres. In addition to their worldwide acclaim for work on movie scores, musicals, and jazz music, all of the three composers featured on this program—André Previn, Kurt Weill, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold—also wrote "classical" works such as those featured here.

Seully Hall is one of the original performance venues of The Boston Conservatory. Located on the 4th floor of 8 The Fenway, Seully Hall seats 125 and is used for many different types of productions as well as classroom and meeting space.

The venue is handicap accessible. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early pick up tickets. Seating is always first come, first served. Please note, during Red Sox baseball season, traffic is particularly heavy, and parking is scarce. For easiest travel, public transportation is recommended.
